This Day In Music History: April 25th

1975: The Doobie Brothers released their fifth studio album, Stampede. It was the group’s final album before Michael McDonald replaced Tom Johnston as lead vocalist and primary songwriter.

1995: Little Feat’s eleventh studio album, Ain’t Had Enough, was released. It was the group’s first album with vocalist Shaun Murphy and was dedicated to the memory of Neon Park, whose artwork is featured on the cover of nearly every Little Feat album.

Chris Mars, drummer from American rock band The Replacements, who released the 1984 album Let It Be. Initially a punk rock band, they are considered pioneers of alternative rock.

1960
Roger Taylor, drummer with Duran Duran who scored the 1983 UK No.1 single 'Is There Something I Should Know' plus 25 other UK Top 40 singles, and the 1984 US No.1 single 'The Reflex'. Also a member of Arcadia who had the 1985 UK No.7 single 'Election Day' and The Power Station.

American keyboard player and vocalist Mike Finnigan, his speciality being the B3 Hammond Organ. Finnigan has worked with many artists including, Jimi Hendrix (Electric Ladyland), Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills & Nash, Peter Frampton, Cher, Ringo Starr, Leonard Cohen, Tower of Power and Rod Stewart.

Tony Murray, with English garage rock band The Troggs, who had the 1966 US No.1 & UK No.2 single 'Wild Thing' and the hits 'With a Girl Like You' and 'Love Is All Around'.

2019 - Molly Hatchet singer Phil McCormack died, age 58. He'd fronted the Southern rock band since 1996 after having performed with them previously, taking over from Danny Joe Brown.

1967 16 year old Janis Ian sings "Society Child" on the CBS-TV show, Inside Pop - The Rock Revolution. A year before, the song was banned by many radio stations because of its interracial love affair theme. Following her television appearance, the record shot into the US Top Twenty.

1967 Mama Cass Elliot gives birth to a daughter she names Owen Vanessa. She never told anyone who the father is, but many years later Michelle Phillips helped Owen locate her biological dad. Owen grew up to become a singer as well and toured with Beach Boys member Al Jardine

2026 Nedra Talley, the last surviving member of the American girl group The Ronettes, passed away at the age of 80. The trio is most often remembered for their hits, "Be My Baby" (#2 in 1963), "Baby, I Love You" (#24 in 1963) and "Walking in the Rain" (#23 in 1964).

1947 Badfinger frontman Pete Ham is born in Swansea, Wales.

1951 Ace Frehley of Kiss is born Paul Frehley in the Bronx, New York. The lead guitarist in the group from 1973-1982 and again from 1996-2002, his persona is the Spaceman.

1963 Little Peggy March started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with 'I Will Follow Him'. At 15 years, 1 month and 13 days old, Little Peggy March became the youngest female singer to have a US No.1 record.

1988 - Poison released their second studio album, Open Up and Say... Ahh!. It features the singles "Nothin’ But a Good Time," "Fallen Angel," "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," and "Your Mama Don’t Dance."

2006 - Keith Richards fell out of a palm tree while vacationing in Fiji and went to the hospital with a concussion, creating a rare news event on the island.
