1945 Ian Gillian (lead singer for Deep Purple) is born in Chiswick, London, England.

1947 George Newsome (original drummer for The Climax Blues Band) is born in Stafford, Staffordshire, England.

1951 John Deacon (bassist for Queen) is born in Oadby, Leicester, England.

1967 Ringo Starr and his wife, the former Maureen Cox, welcome their second son, Jason.

1997 Fleetwood Mac release their live album "The Dance."

2007 The surviving founding members of Boston play a Beantown concert in honor of late front man Brad Delp. Extreme and Godsmack (playing mostly acoustic) also perform. The show culminates with an introduction of the past and present Boston members in attendance and a performance of "Don't Look Back."

1967: The New York Times reported about a noise reduction system for album and tape recording developed by technicians R. and D.W. Dolby. Elektra Record’s subsidiary, Checkmate Records became the first label to use the new Dolby process in its recordings.

1973: The Rolling Stones released “Angie.”

1988, Iron Maiden, KISS, David Lee Roth, Megadeth, Guns N' Roses and Helloween all appeared at this year's 'Monsters Of Rock' Festival, Castle Donington, England. Two rock fans died while 'slam dancing' as Guns N' Roses played.

1934 Country/rock musician "Sneaky" Pete Kleinow (of The Flying Burrito Brothers) is born in South Bend, Indiana.

1941 Space rock musician Dave Brock (of Hawkwind) is born in Isleworth, Middlesex, England.

1944 Blues drummer "Uncle John" Turner (of Johnny Winter's backing band) is born in Beaumont, Texas.

1947 Trombonist James Pankow (of Chicago) is born in St. Louis, Missouri.

1949 Bassist/vocalist Phil Lynott (of Thin Lizzy) is born in West Bromwich, Staffordshire, England.

1979 Bob Dylan releases Slow Train Coming.

1968 - The director of the University of Tennessee's audio lab, Dr. David M. Lipscomb, reported that a guinea pig subjected over a three month period to 88 hours of Rock music recorded at a Knoxville disco at 120 decibels suffered acute damage to the inner ears. Steve Paul, the owner of a New York disco replied, "Should a major increase in guinea pig attendance occur at The Scene, we'll certainly bear their comfort in mind."

1969
- Frank Zappa temporarily disbands The Mothers of Invention right after an eight day tour in Canada. Zappa says he's "tired of playing for people who clap for all the wrong reasons."
