1960, Decca Records scrapped 25,000 copies of Ray Peterson's 'Tell Laura I Lover Her' because they felt the song, which recounts the last thoughts of a teenager dying from a car accident, was "too tasteless and vulgar". A cover version by Ricky Valance, went to No.1 on the UK chart a month later.

1991, On A Friday, (later to become known as Radiohead), appeared at The Jericho Tavern, Oxford, England. The band had met while attending Abingdon School, a boys-only public school. "On a Friday", referred to the band's usual rehearsal day in the school's music room.

1992, A riot broke out during a Guns N' Roses and Metallica gig at Montreal stadium when Metallica's show was cut short after singer James Hetfield was injured by pyrotechnics. Guns N' Roses took the stage but frontman Axl Rose claimed that his throat hurt, causing the band to leave the stage early. The cancellation led to a riot by the audience who overturned cars, smashed windows, looted local stores and set fires.

1996, KISS appeared at the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio on their 192 date Alive World Tour. During this show a fan threw his fake leg on stage, which all the members signed and handed back to him.

1964 - "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals is released in America. Although the band would put 14 songs in the Top 40, this will be their only US number one. It was reported that the song was recorded in just one take and the band was actually in the studio for less than ten minutes.

2004 The perfect crime goes awry. Dave Matthews Band's tour bus dumps human feces from a bridge, intending to unload it into the toxic Chicago River-who'd notice? Somewhat humorously, DMB's waste lands on a tour boat. The bus driver and the band are sued by the state of Illinois.

2010 High winds, torrential rain, and hail from a five minute freak thunderstorm nearly derails Iron Maiden's appearance at Finland's Sonisphere Festival. 40 people are injured by the storm which destroys Maiden's stage equipment and tour plane. The band is able to use gear provided by Slayer. "We're not going home until you go home," says front man Bruce Dickinson. "We were p**sed on by the gods and we p**sed on the gods right back. For those of you that have Rocked we f**king salute you."

1976 More than a feeling. Boston's self-titled debut is released.

1980 Mutt Lange produced "Back In Black" tops the U.K. chart. It's AC/DC's first album with vocalist Brian Johnson.

1986 Queen headlines the Knebworth Park Festival in England. It turns out to be front man Freddie Mercury's last performance with the group.

1995 While at a drug treatment center, Grateful Dead leader/guitarist/main force Jerry Garcia, goes to a better place (the great beyond).

2008 Ozzfest is a single day (rather than a traveling riot) in Dallas. Ozzy Osbourne (naturally) and Metallica are the headliners. Sevendust is a second-stage act while Drowning Pool and local bands hold down the third stage. During the festival there's a tribute to late Pantera/Damageplan guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott. Abbott's brother, Hellyeah/Pantera/Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul is the performance's musical director.

2010 To mark the 15th anniversary of Jerry Garcia's death, former Grateful Dead band mates Bob Weir and Phil Lesh sing the National Anthem prior to the San Francisco Giants game against the Chicago Cubs. Garcia's daughter Annabelle throws out the ceremonial first pitch. There's even a Jerry Garcia bobble head giveaway (perhaps baseball's highest honor). The Giants beat the Cubs 4-3.

1970 - Jim Morrison's trial for allegedly exposing himself onstage in Miami begins. He would be found guilty and Judge Goodman would sentence Jim to six months of hard labor and a $500 fine for public exposure and sixty days of hard labor for profanity. His lawyer filed an immediate appeal and Jim was freed on the $50,000 bond. Morrison would die in Paris, France on July 3, 1971 before his legal problems could be resolved. In December, 2010, the Florida Clemency Board would grant a full pardon.
