Rolling Stones Tour Reportedly Facing Slow Ticket Sales

Could the days of Rolling Stones concerts instantly setting box office records be numbered? While the Stones have always enjoyed robust sales on their prior tours, the Guardian is reporting that tickets to the group’s highly anticipated ’50 And Counting’ tour aren’t moving quite as fast as the group may have hoped.

The Stones’ 17-date tour is the band’s biggest run of shows in the last six years. They were greeted by a full-house at a recent performance in Los Angeles, but only after the price of tickets were slashed in the days leading up to the show. Last week, the group released additional seats for that show for a (relatively) modest $85 each via their website. (A limited number of tickets were initially made available at that price.)

So what exactly is to blame for the seeming decline in audience interest in the Stones this time? Some insiders believe that the ticket prices are the primary culprit. Standard seats at their shows are reportedly selling for $170 each, while premium seating is running above $600 per ticket. That doesn’t include people paying upwards of $2000 for the VIP experience.

“Price does matter,” said Gary Bongiovanni, editor of the concert industry publication Pollstar. “The market is speaking.”

Rolling Stones Albums Reissued on Clear Vinyl

Even though they left the label years ago, ABKCO Records is still an important part of the Rolling Stones‘ history. And the label is joining the band’s 50th anniversary celebration by reissuing three classic Stones albums on clear 180 gram vinyl.

The reissues, which will be available on May 28, are part of the company’s new campaign, ‘The Rolling Stones Clearly Classic,’ which promises songs “meticulously mastered from high-resolution audio files sourced from the original master tapes, assuring optimal sound quality that exceeds both conventional CD audio and digital downloads,” according to a press release.

The three albums — ‘Beggars Banquet,’ ‘Let It Bleed’ and ‘Hot Rocks 1964-1971′ — include some of the band’s most enduring tracks, like ‘Sympathy for the Devil,’ ‘Street Fighting Man,’ ‘Gimme Shelter’ and ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want.’

The most successful record of the bunch, ‘Hot Rocks 1964-1971,’ features 21 of the band’s biggest hits. It was a huge sales hit when it came out in 1971, spending 243 consecutive weeks on the chart and eventually selling more than 12 million copies.

All three reissues are already available for pre-order on Amazon, where they’re going from $22 to $28.

Bill Wyman on Another Rolling Stones Reunion: ‘Never Again’

Bill-Wyman.jpg

SOURCE LINK

If you happened to be in attendance at the O2 Arena in London last November when Bill Wyman joined the Rolling Stones on stage for the first time in roughly 20 years, hang on to those memories, because Wyman says it’ll never happen again.

Having already expressed his disappointment with his extremely limited involvement during the shows, Wyman later revealed that he’d turned down an invitation to join the band on the American leg of its ’50 and Counting’ tour. And judging from the tone of his comments during a recent interview with the Huffington Post, it sounds like he intends to decline all further Stones opportunities, too.

That doesn’t mean he regrets playing with the band one last time, however. “The nice thing was that my kids saw me on stage with the Stones,” he explained. “They’d asked me the December before, and I had to jam with them for three days. I was under the impression I was going to get really involved, but when it came to it, they only wanted me to do two songs, which was very disappointing.”

As far as Wyman’s concerned, that feeling was probably inevitable. “I’ve always maintained that you can’t go back to things, and they can never be the same,” he pointed out. “It’s like a school reunion, or Tony Hancock’s Army reunion. If you try to go back and have a relationship with someone, it doesn’t work, and it’s the same musically. It doesn’t work. It was a one-off. Five minutes. OK, never again. No regrets, we’re still great friends.”

This June will mark the 35th anniversary of the #1 selling album, Some Girls, with over 6 million sold in the USA alone. Some Girls went to #1 on the Billboard 200 because of a string of hits like "Miss You", "Beast of Burdon" and "Shattered".

^^Already picked up a vinyl copy of Some Girls last year, sounds excellent too. Bucky got me to listen to it again years ago and it moved way up on my Stones album list.

Haven't seen the clear vinyl reissues MP posted about yet, but Hot Rocks 1 would be the record I'm interested in, one of the best compilation albums ever released.

^^Nice to see it gets the official "Bucky stamp of approval" but I'll pass on yet another live Stones recording.

I can heartily recommend the new vinyl pressing of "Hot Rocks I", it's almost perfect and to me old Stones have never sounded this good before. Also a good value I got my copy on sale for $30.00, gatefold with all the trimmings.

That sounds awesome & if you're a fan but not a freak over the Stones Hot Rocks is the way to go.

I may have mentioned it before someplace in the forum but the one thing I love about the Stones is how they keep releasing live albums from the past (& now this recent one). The new one is $9.99 for the d/l but on their official archive site as well as Google music they have released around 5 or 6 shows from over the years for only about 6 bucks per download. The Brussels Affair from 1973 is amazing! I've never heard such a good version of Midnight Rambler as the one on that release. More older bands should be going through there vaults & releasing things because why not make a couple bucks as their careers are winding down
