Even Bill Wyman claims that the 1968-1972 era was the stones 'golden era' and he's right.

For me I like Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street although 'Exile' sounds like a mish/mash of demos & rehearsal tracks to my ears.

As for Some Girls its ok but I don't like 'Just My Imagination' which was an American 'soul group' song from the beginning of the 1970s.

i saw the stones in 78 and 97,sucked twice.
Missed this post apparently.....
but I saw them on July 26, Jagger's 36 bithday in 1975, and I have to agree that they did not sound that great. They put on an entertaining stage show but the sound was a bit 'echoy' due to the size of the IU Assembly Hall and they were a bit sloppy in their playing. First and last time I saw them but I have heard since that they dont usually have a good sound live in big places. I have heard that when they did some small clubs years ago they sounded better.

Yes they covered Temptations Aint Too Proud to Beg ,Just My Imagination, My Girl... as well a s many by Berry and others over the years.
My favorites are also Beggars, Bleed, and Fingers.....I think Exile would have been a very good single lp. I also like Goats Head Soup as well as several of the very early ones.

I agree dr wu 'Exile' may have been better as a single lp with tracks such as Tumbling Dice, Happy, Sweet Black Angel (which I like) and a few others, also I like Goasts Head Soup as well which tends to be overlooked somewhat.

The lands of Marshall Stack.
Undoubtedly ...the releases from Beggar's Banquet to Exile On Main St. will always be considered their most productive and popular period. Rolling Stones 1&2 are equally as good...but in totally different ways.
Exile remains my all-time fave...it drips dark and seedy...murky rock music, habits and all the excesses that were thrust upon them since 1963.The bit about taxation isn't strictly true...but adds to the mystique (it always infers that only 7% of 100 would be their's (not the case.) For me the hotch potch collection of a muddled jigsaw...somehow fits...and it being a Stones double offering 'we as listeners make it fit too'.
My affection for this album ran to being 'inked' back in the 90's with a song title.
Enuff ramblin' from me ...Barry here describes it far more eloquently.
