Maybe for many it was an age thing.. or where your head was at the time?
Though DJ John Peel weren't no teen and he was a major exponent of punk... and reggae!
I was a sponge (still am) and liked and enthused so much music.... and didn't dress to a code that followed a certain genre
(me back then.Henna'd my hair myself!)
I went to see Climax Blues Band, The Damned and Mahogany Rush the same period - it was the gregarious atmosphere at punk gigs, small, dark, sweaty and violent. Your chest and ribs hummed, ears rang leaving you drenched in sweat and bruises.... this i didn't get at a festival where the Stones, Floyd and Skynyrd shared the same stage. Plus I saw it as a natural progression from the rock I loved and listened to. Alice Cooper and The Stooges are obvious pointers- maybe I'm one in very few that saw The Cure and Heatwave the same month!
This album and song got me hooked and probably similar to the Beatles & Stones media war ten years previous... I ignored it and got on surviving... yet secretly knowing I was living in a special time (the 70's) for music of any description.
