I thought this would make a great thread! At work I have Dark Side Of The Moon on my desktop and one of my co-workers said "What is that? I've seen that before" I told him it's like one of the top 3 BIGGEST albums in the entire world.

He asked "Led Zeppelin?" Now granted I know he's not real big into music but this stuff I still find odd. I did tell him it was Pink Floyd, but even humming a couple tunes from it you get the shrug shoulder response.

What overly obvious band, art, song or what not have you seen others not knowing what it is and had to tell them.

I was once on a plane for a flight from San Francisco to D.C. and I got talking to this big guy who I had recognised for about 25 years who was sitting right across the aisle of the plane from me (we had been bumped up to 1st Class because they lost a item of my luggage on the flight out there 4 days earlier)...and when he got up out of his seat to use the bathroom, my wife said to me "Who's that guy you've been talking to?"...to which I replied ..."er, he's called Meatloaf...go back to sleep honey!!"

Charming guy actually. My wife plays classical violin, professionally, so I forgave her for not recognising the 350 pound sweaty hell-raiser rocker whose first album sold 50 million copies and stayed on the charts for about 10 years!!... and to be fair I don't think 'Bat Out of Hell' - which probably more so than any other record has been lying around our home(s) since before we got married - has his picture on the album sleeve.
