This band was SO GREAT! A truly forgotten treasure.
Another couple of great southern bands were Tucky Buzzard & Hydra.
The first Point Blank album is another real treasure. Nothing like their later stuff, which was really good from a commercial stand point, but not nearly as "real" sounding.
I anyone hasn't already heard it, try and locate a copy of the Navasota Rootin' album. It was produced I believe by one of the members of Steely Dan.
That is indeed a pretty obscure list of bands, starman. The only ones I recognize are Mahogany Rush and Utopia (if that's the same one with Todd Rundgren). Mahogany Rush recieved a fair amount of airplay here in Los Angeles, epsecially when "Strange Dreams" was released. But thanks for posting your list. I'll check for them on iTunes and see if I can add to my seemingly ever-growing collection of 70's tunes.
The only obscure stuff I have (I think) would be by Atomic Rooster and Pentagram.
The borderline obscure stuff I have of 70's rock bands that had some level of success with a hit or two on the radio are:
Five Man Electrical Band (Signs)
Blues Image (Ride Captain Ride)
Vanity Fair (Hitchin' a Ride)
Head East (Never Been Any Reason)
Shocking Blue (California Here I Come, Harley Davidson, Venus)
Sugarloaf (Wild Child, Green-Eyed Lady)

I absolutely love that Pentagram First Daze Here collection. FDH Too is a complete JOKE.
This particular group Utopia is not the same as Todd & Kasim's band but rather a band named Utopia that put out one record on the Kent records label (I think that was the label's name), later this same band would rename themselves and re-release some of the songs from this first album along with some others under the name Growl. I think they may have put out more than one record under that name. I can think of a few instances where this scenario happened. Mostly it's when a major label picks the band up after they have already released an album on an independent or private label.
Hunting vinyl is fun and never ceases to yield buried treasure.
