…..The Sound!
Okay, as usual with me it's a bit of a long and complicated story!! …. but Soot knows the details as we were in animated correspondence a few weeks ago.
I first joined CRF back in I think 2011, accumulating around 3,000 posts, though I always tended to come and go a bit, as is my habit on any forum where I am a member.
So why the change of ID? Well, quite recently my PC, including all 3 of my email accounts, plus other private folders on my computer, some of which contained details of my internet forum passwords, and other private business, were infiltrated/hacked - whatever you want to call it, though by whom, and why exactly, I may never know…my internet searches started being redirected, my virus software stopped working, files were being deleted, and I even began to generate multiple spam emails, which were sent to everybody on my contacts list, without my knowledge, and then my PC basically just crashed, terminally. So it became pretty scary stuff for a while.
So I then instantly became totally paranoid about privacy, and the whole www in general, and the fact that we now know millions of us are apparently daily being snooped on (Verizon/NSA, the Edward Snowden case) didn't help.
And so, since I woke up one morning and suddenly discovered that I was basically living in North Korea, I really had no other option but to go out and buy a new laptop, and then dump everything and close down and delete all my existing email accounts, and also discontinue using all my old forum accounts (one of which was CRF) and so basically I have had to start all over again.
So anyway, Soot told me that he is happy for me to return here re-registered under a new guise, so I thought I better just briefly re-introduce myself in case you make some observations and spot some idiosyncrasies which seems strangely familiar to CRF veterans from this particular ‘newbie’!
For any newish members here who don't remember me, I'm a 48 year old British born 'stay at home dad' music fan, I’m originally from Lancashire, England, and I am still fiercely proud of my English heritage. But I’ve been living in the USA, mostly, for over 20 years, and since 2012 we’ve been living here in midtown-Manhattan, NYC, after 16 years previously spent working and living in Washington, DC. My wife is American, a native New Yorker, and we have 3 great teenage kids, two boys and a girl.
I'm mostly into singer-songwriters, though with 35 years as a fan of ‘classic rock’, and like I assume many people on here, my list of favorite bands/artists I've loved over the years is probably closer to 300 in number than it is to 30, but Tom Petty, Genesis/Gabriel, Joni Mitchell, Radiohead, Van Morrison, R.E.M., Pink Floyd, U2, Dylan, Rush, Zeppelin, Rolling Stones are all for me the music 'creme de la creme', but the two who are always right at the very top my list, above all others, and whose music and message and songs have actually, in some ways I'd say, even changed my life, are Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam. I’m a big record/CD/MP3 collector, and also a lifelong frequent concert goer, my first gig was 1978 when my father took me - as a 12 year old - to see Genesis at Knebworth, and I've probably averaged 20+ gigs a year ever since, and still do.
Also, I listen to a lot of classical music – my wife is actually a professional musician, playing violin, and she has played with and been contracted to several professional orchestras, and she still does this fairly regularly, though mainly now working as a ‘freelance’, and she also teaches violin and has students who she tutors here at home.
I’m also a BIG time sports fan, pretty much love everything really, I'd watch two snails racing each other up a drainpipe, but especially Formula One motorsports, and BASEBALL!!! .... about which I’m slightly obsessive.
Okay, so that's about all really….gotta go, but should be posting here by tomorrow!
So friends, good health to you all, and see you around.
