I grew up on fifties music and blues, listening to WNJR, WWRL and the NY stations that would play it. It was my entry into the music business. First as the 45 man at Sam Goodies, trying to payback the education that my local record store in Brooklyn offered me. I was floored when he played me, as a potential buyer, The Drifters new record at the time, "There Goes My Baby,"
, which was the first use of strings on a rock and roll record.
When I was 19, I had started to organize a dance for my fraternity, with the Laddins, (formerly known as The Alladdins), who sang "Did It," but when they backed out, my partner and I ran our own dance. That dance was a huge success and it led to a job at the Silver Knight in Hewlett, L.I., where I booked the entertainment and ran the promotions. One day, a local group called The Florals, from Queens came in to audition for a gig. I suggested that as Slim at Times Sq. Records, never found the disk of Stormy Weather by the Five Sharps, that they sing it and I promptly renamed them as The Five Sharks. The rest is history, as the group went on, with different members, and I went became the owner of a major rock and roll agency.
