i like the simplicity of this album too. Definitely very folky. im not sure tho. . .it seems a little derrivative. i feel like ive heard a lot of this stuff before in other places (like bob dylan).
my gf and i talked about this album and we came to some similar conclusions about the style but our review didn't see it in such a positive light. i don't know, i think its kind of an interesting counterpoint to this review, because I feel like both are really solid reviews in terms of being well thought out, even tho we didn't really draw the same conclusion

It's really personal opinion if anything. I've heard mixed reviews about this album, things like "its not really the Decemberists sound", but that hasn't once changed my opinion on it. A lot of reviews are very very strongly worded just to attempt to prove a point. Otherwise, it's really an album that you either like, or you don't. Same with any album.

The more I listen to this release the more I like it and I liked it from the get go.

I gave it another listen I think....two or three days ago. I may have to listen to it tomorrow. I really really like it. One of my favorite releases by them, next to Picaresque.
