Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry didn’t mince words when asked about Kiss in a recent radio interview. Tyler admitted he never cared for his counterpart’s music after calling them “a comic book rock band.” With Gene Simmons and company also doing media rounds to promote a new album, one expects Tyler’s comments are only the beginning of an entertaining back-and-forth.

“They’ve got a couple of hits, but they’re more the comic book — you see them in their speckled faces,” Tyler added while talking to the Cowhead Show on Tampa, Fla. rock station WHPT in an interview that aired Wednesday. “I remember when we went out with Kiss in ’76 or something, one of our roadies got into a knife fight with their guys. So I hated them ever since.”

The singer added that he’s learned to like Simmons and Paul Stanley on a personal level since that incident, but his thoughts on their music haven’t wavered.

“It is different. A Kiss lick and a Joe Perry lick — two different worlds. And I, sometimes, depending on the time of day, get offended. I hear that and go, ‘It’s all right, but do they really mean it?’ And, ‘What’s this all about?’ And that’s why I think Aerosmith has been around forever. We really do take ourselves seriously.”

“It’s two different animals,’ Perry added. The men are doing interviews to promote their tour and the upcoming ‘Music From Another Dimension’ album that hits stores on Nov. 6. Aerosmith continue their Global Warming tour on Nov. 8.

Two legendary and massively successful bands, both still active, both either on tour or going to be on tour soon I don't take this seriously but it might generate some "Buzz" which seems to be part of the business these days.

^^I had a similar thought, except I like a lot of the albums by both bands, mostly from their early years which even Die Hard fans of both bands have to admit are the Gold standard when it comes to either bands discography.

What's worse is that he claims to 'take his music seriously'. I officially have zero respect for this guy.

I never had Tyler on a pedestal anyway, and after his stint on Idol that damaged his 'street cred' in my view. Reminds me of a restaurant, you could serve 20 great meals, build up a fabulous reputation then have a bad night and you are back to ground zero.

Strange, Aerosmith and Kiss toured together within the last few years. One of those "we want to play arenas and amphitheatres, but neither of us are big enough to do it on our own" jobs.

They both have albums due out in the near future. Aerosmith kick the shit out of Kiss in every way possible though.

I actually always thought that if anyone could replace Ace stylistically it would be Perry. Both are blues based riff oriented players. Mk II Kiss might have been kind of interesting with Perry on lead and neither band could have done any worse. That's for sure.
