Should the Rolling Stones continue to tour? Is it a generation dependent question?

Should the Rolling Stones continue to tour?

  • I'm too young to have been a fan prior to 1980. It's ridiculous for them to continue to tour though.

The Rolling Stones take a lot of flack from certain quarters for continuing to tour. There are those who argue that they're "destroying their legacy" by continuing to give concerts when they're well into into their sixties - and perhaps eventually beyond.

Still though their tours continue to set new box office records. Clearly there are enough fans out there willing to pay the freight.

Methinks therefore that most of the criticism is not coming from longtime Stones fans, who seem quite happy to see the Stones continue to tour.

What do you say?

:dunno:

Tour as long as you have fans and make people happy by touring :) (unlike Britney for example, who's fans left before the end)

The Stones put on a great show ... as long as they continue to do so, I have no problem with them touring. Unlike many groups from the 60's or 70's, they have all their "original" members or at least members who have played together for over 30 years.

I would love to see them again .. Perhaps this time, they'll do "Wild Horses" ...

I'm relatively new to the Stones and I feel the same as most it seems: If they can rock it, rock it!
What was the joke from the Simpsons? In Lisa's future episode(the one where she tries to marry a brit) it lists a poster for "The Rolling Stones: Steel Wheelchair" tour...:lmao:

There was an important option missing in the poll. There needs to be one last selection that reads "All of The Above". :heybaby:

I'm half way serious about that too. Through out their history the Stones have been like 5 different bands. I certainly would not pay the ridiculous amount of money they ask to see their shows these days, but I don't really care if they keep touring or not.

Part of me sees it as a good thing because everyone, no matter how old they are, should be able to do and be appreciated within, whatever field of artistic expression they choose. So, if they honestly still have a convicted and sincere fan base, why not? I am against all elitism based on aesthetics.

The other part of me realizes that compared to "Let It Bleed", anything post Some Girls (and many would say even that album) has been a complete joke. But that's JMO, and I realize as much so, to each their own.

I've never been an avid Stones fan - I think they're way overrated in the grand scheme of things - but I don't see any reason they should stop touring if they still want to. Obviously, business is outstanding ( even if the music isn't). I don't see any way that The Stones will ever stop being a huge concert draw before they're dead or too old to handle it - since even the hypothetical tour where they jump the shark and become a shadow of their former selves and fans are left unsatisfied, disappointed, and angry will still be a sell out...at which time they could decide to retire the band and soothe their anguish over their tarnished legacy with the tens of millions of dollars they netted from the tour. The Stones have always and will always have it good - if they still want to be out on the road I say fine by me.

I'm one of the people Fox is alluding to.

I remember reading the Rolling Stone article in 1977 about the Stones, and Mick Jagger couldn't foresee them touring indefinitely, and didn't want to just be an old dinosaur doing it for the money alone. I'll bet he thought they might get to the mid-80's or even 90's and then retire.

I can't argue with the hordes of fans supporting their tours/concerts, but I think they have had a great run and can just fade away gracefully.

The thought of a concert in 2020 with Keith Richards in a walker is just not palatable to me...:heheh:

The Stones always seem to put on a great live show. By continuing to tour, it will also give a new generation a chance to see living legends (keep those ticket stubs, kids!).

I really don't think it even matters if they are touring to support an album or if that new material is any good. As long as the majority of their set-list is from the first half of their career they will put on a great show. That's what people want to see and hear.

Just don't lose any more original members.

Hell if Chuck Berry can still tour the Stones definitely can!
