I couldn't care about his look actually . And I don't HATE Bonamass or his music it's just a very clean ( far too clean for Blues ) delivery and style. I'm just making observations . It's obviously also why he is so commercially popular. The old " the most popular is the greatest" argument is and always was a bunch of BS.

@************ ,

I didn't make that argument, nor would I. I see arguments from both sides I can agree with, but I still can't choose.

My own view is that both artists have their place, both are/were very talented musicians, and I actually wouldn't like to seriously have to choose between the two. Rory of course is sadly no longer with us, so I'm glad we've got people like Joe carrying on the tradition of great blues-rock. As a guitarist who plays much in this genre, I appreciate both. I prefer to play Rory's music on the guitar myself, but I'm quite happy listening to either, and can learn from both.

Yeah, I realize you never made the lame over used" he's great look how popular "
statement. Just clarifying that that statement is why I pointed out Joes easy accessibility for kiddie and grandma a like.
That doesn't mean I hate him or even his music. He is highly talented just a bit to mainstream polish for my taste though I do love his work in BCC.

I don't know too much about Joe Bonamassa, except that I am not a fan of much of his solo work, as it tends to be close to pure blues, but I love his heavier work with BCC. With the latter he is the most interesting of modern guitarists and it makes me wonder why he does not play more hard rock.

Rory Gallagher could not do much wrong for me up to the point where Lou Martin left the band. After this I lost interest, nor could I ever get into Taste at all (despite trying). I did see Rory Gallagher live, but it was without Martin - although it may have been with Rod de'Ath on drums. Can't remember!?

My favourite Gallagher track is A Million Miles Away from the BBC sessions, which is slightly different to the album version. I have an album of BBC stuff, but they omitted some of his best session tracks. They could be on another collection, I am not sure. Bluprint and Tattoo remain utterly fantastic for me, with Bullfrog Blues, A Million Miles Away, Cradle Rock, Daughter of the Everglades and plenty of others.

My vote goes to Gallagher, but the comparison is not like-with-like as Bonamassa came much later. I am pinning all my hopes for hard rock on the latter, despite him again saying he does not want to continue with BCC.

I must admit, I prefer Joe's tunes that aren't pure blues, but edge more towards rock, and they are pretty much scattered through his solo work. But he does use a wide variety of styles and sounds, which I think keeps his music fairly fresh.

I think the comparison is pretty valid, as both artists play in the same genres, and both have similar influences.
