One of my favorite uses of sampling is in this song by 2Pac! I like the original song but I just think it just made for a great sample in a more sentimental rap song! Such a perfect melody! :grinthumb

Nice idea for a thread Jen, but I am no fan of "Sampling" at all. Everyone knows how I feel about certain genres, there is not one "updated/incorporated urban/pop" version of any classic I will like more than the original.

Personally after all the legal crap artists have gone through over the decades before certain genres became popular I feel this whole sampling(stealing, pillaging, borrowing) dilutes music rather than adds to it.

My one and Only post in this thread.;)

Sometimes there is a hard rock sample used in a hard rock song. I posted the first example of that sample and believe me or not the extended version of the middle part of Pilgrim is killer. :grinthumb

True Nolo, and I could post a whole bunch of songs on here from LZ I. It's not only pop/hip-hop tunes, though the rest are hard to find.

I didn't like sampling before, but I have come to like it quite a lot. I listen to rap albums trying to see how they incorporate their sampling in their music and it's quite an interesting work. They use a drum beat from a 60's garage rock song, use some 70's funky bass, and stuff like that. Most hip-hop artists use samples in almost every song and mix them.

Kanye West is a genius. And rap artists know a whole lot about rock music. They probably like it as much as anyone of us. They are really inspired for their songs. Rap in the beginnings was really "rock-ish". The bad thing is that gangster rap threw everything to the garbage and rap music doesn0t get the respect some of their artists deserve. But I understand people who don't like it, who don't like sampling, but to be honest, most rock bands also rip-off the bands they like, they just call it "influence".

One minor thing though. Gangsta rap should not be dismissed. A lot of it had better writing and themes that were at least written about each artists real lives rather than bravado and partying. I love modern Hip-Hop in a lot of cases but it is by no means on a higher level than the gangsta rap like 2pac, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, Warren G, etc. that preceded it. :D
