Rock/Metal Sub Genres

Just wondering what everybody's favorite sub genre of Rock/Metal is. Please choose the sub genre of Rock/Metal you like the best, not one from Rock and one from Metal.

Can't pick one...like early 70's HEAVY.... all types of Metal and 70's progressive rock the best. Sorry but that's the best I can do.

That's a tough question Scotty...

I enjoy almost all the old metal and most of the newer varieties as well with a couple of exceptions.

For rock music...it's easier to pick a decade than a flavor for me it would be the classic rock of the 70's.

If that's not exact enough let me know.

My favorite is what would be called "progressive rock." Please see my thread on an introduction to progressive rock for more information and a detailed description on the genre.

I also like what I refer to as "album rock." This is a catch all term and maybe a bit vague but I like music that focuses on what an artist can do within the context of an album. All songs are part of the larger whole and not just "hits" or "singles" to be taken out of context. I don't like the term "classic rock" because I don't want some dj or radio programmer to tell me what is a classic and what isn't. I'll make up my own mind, thank you very much.

Toss up between Folk Metal and Symphonic Metal for me....ok then Symphonice Metal....the big sounding score stuff

In terms of rock I am not all that picky but metal I am mainly black, death and thrash metal as my major favourites. Love Symphonic metal and various other types too but those are the main ones.

I knew it would be hard for most to pick the Rock/Metal sub genre that they like the best. I think its easier for most to pick their favorite band.
