Legendary Guitarist JOHN SYKES Dead At 65

Legendary English guitarist John Sykes (TYGERS OF PAN TANG, THIN LIZZY, WHITESNAKE, BLUE MURDER, SYKES) has died at the age of 65. Earlier today (Monday, January 20),the following statement was posted on Sykes's social media: "It is with great sorrow we share that John Sykes has passed away...

OMG... Bad day. He was one of most talented guitar players in his generation and his solos were unearthly melodious. R.I.P. John.

Saddened to hear this news..I saw him twice with Thin Lizzy on their farewell Thunder and Lighting tour in 1983 in UK in Liverpool and later that year when Lizzy headlined the Reading Rock Festival which was Lizzy's last ever UK performance before they called it a day...John and Phil Lynott really got on well together and had a lot of respect for each other. John loved his time with Lizzy...i'll be playing the Thunder and Lighting album and some Blue Murder tonight with a beer or two..RIP John.

From what I recall from reading in the book about Thin Lizzy first published back in the mid-1990s Whitesnake meaning David Coverdale wanted John very much back in the 80s and so he quit 'Lizzy' which wasn't a quick decision for him to come to because he always preferred being in Thin Lizzy and Phil Lynott was obviously p***ed off with him leaving the band but Phil wouldn't have stood in his way to quit 'Lizzy' but his leaving came at a time when Phil wasn't in the best of health and also losing a 'star' guitarist in John as well didn't help Phil's own situation.
