Who decides whether a thread on a particular band is official? Is it the poster?

Also, can an email notification be set as default for all posts?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Official threads question

If you use the search function and a particular band hasn't had a thread made for them, than it's your decision whether you want to make a thread for them or not. Thus making it official.

Unfortunately the search function doesn't really work 100% accurately so you have to be pretty precise in what you search, otherwise you may end up making a thread that already exists without knowing there was another thread. But like I said, that's usually the fault of the search function.

Also, it's sometimes/often unfamiliar if a thread is the official band thread for the band you are searching for. Take my Blackfield thread for example. I searched for the band and I found a thread that had the concert schedules and the information about a new album, but I didn't see much or any info on the band itself, so I thought it was just a discussion thread for something else. When I made the thread however, it was noted that the other thread was the Blackfield thread, but I hadn't really known given the information provided.

Usually when I make an official band thread, it includes:

[My thoughts on the band / why I like the band]
[Band name]
[Band photo]
[List of discography]
[List of members]
[3 or 4 youtube videos from the bands music]

^That would more likely make it more evident that it's an official band thread.

Re: Official threads question

We as the staff define an official thread officially as the following...

"1. The OP should contain a link to the band/artist official website (if there is an official site)

2. Adding a link to the band/artist wikipedia page would also be a good idea.

3. The band/artist studio discography should be in the OP.

4. An image of the band/artist should also be in the OP."

Plus you can always put on your own personal touches and details into it.

Re: Official threads question

1 Who decides whether a thread on a particular band is official? Is it the poster?

Also, 2 can an email notification be set as default for all posts?

Thanks in advance.

To give you an "Official" answer to your questions:

Answer to question 1 The person creating the thread can make the thread official if they want to. Staff will look the first post in the thread over (this is what we call the OP 'original post' of the thread), and make sure our guidelines are met for the official post.

You can find these guidelines in the Rules and Posting Guidelines

Answer to question 2 The best way to do this is go to your UserCP. Click on edit options.

In the edit options screen, scroll down to Messaging & Notifications. Here you have several notification/subscription options.

1) Do Not Subscribe
2) No Email Notification (which will auto-subscribe to threads but will not send you any email noticies of any posts)
3) Instant Email Notification (subscribes to threads and notifies you instantly in your email of any posts to that thread)
4) Daily Email Notification (pretty self explanatory....subscribes you to a thread with only 1 email notice daily of any posts in that thread)
5) Weekly Email Notification. (same as above but only sends you email weekly of any new posts in your subscribed threads)

NOTE: You have to post in a thread in order to subscribe to a thread.

Any thread you are subscribed to will show up on the first screen of your UserCP. From here you can choose to reply to the thread or unsubscribe to the thread

I hope this explains things :)
