Sad new today Bernie lost her battle with cancer at the young age of 52, star of stage and screen and as a member of The Nolans,

Some singers cannot act and vice versa, but Bernie was good in The Bill. Without the illness, she may have gone on to bigger roles. The cancer charities were on the BBC TV news today and said she gave a lot of publicity to their cause, but it is still very sad. RIP

Totally agree with Big Ears - and she was also brilliant prior to The Bill, in Brookside. Of all the sisters, she seemed the most natural in the spotlight.

After her diagnosis she threw herself, as much as her condition would allow, into supporting the charities and raising awareness of them.

Very sad to read of her passing, especially as she leaves a 14-year old daughter with her husband.

Very sad news. She was a talented actress and singer, and even excelled at opera singing when she was on the singing competition show Popstar to Operastar. Seemed like a super nice person too. RIP Bernie.
