Re: R.e.m.

My parents were big fans so I have listened to most REM songs and I believe them to be good contemporary rock. That can be a taboo term for some, I think even Denis Leary( on "no cure for cancer") made fun of "shiny happy people" so I also understand that some tracks were overplayed (like so many other tracks and artists) and people grow a stigma around it. So I give em a thumbs up and enjoy the occasional song. Not my preferred band but good, nonetheless.

Re: R.e.m.

I really like "Losing My Religion" by R.E.M. Evidently the name stands for Rapid Eye Movement.

:****:

You would think that is what the band name means, but it isn't. According to Stipe, the founder of the band, he got the name from a random word in the dictionary while he was in college. He has failed to say what that random word is. And their lawyer, Bertis Downs, has stuck by that claim ever since the name has been challenged.

Re: R.e.m.

I only remember the name REM because it was a keyword used in the BASIC Computer Language (popular term in the early 80s) which was a keyword which did nothing except give program structure for a BASIC program - hence it was used for REMarks and REMinders! :D

So a valid statement would be:

Code:
10 REM This is a program which does nothing when run.

:D

^^...:lmao: I remember that CP/M, but I like some of REM's songs myself, no expert though seeing I only have a few MP3's scattered around the PC.

Then you'll probably remember "GOTO" and GOTOing to that "REM" statement - what a waste of time that was doing! :D

Maybe this is the random word that R.E.M. took their name from and Stipe just wants to let the old BASIC computer geeks have the inside laugh!

:heheh:

Re: R.e.m.

I had so much trouble finding this group - mainly because I don't associate them as a Punk group - I thought they were more progressive. Anyway I thought I had my favourite songs of their's in here, but couldn't find them.

Man On The Moon

Shiny Happy People

Everybody Hurts

Re: R.e.m.

One of many bands I only have the greatest hits compilation of.

That said, my favourite song is The Great Beyond, which seems to be underrated because it hasn't been posted until now:

I only have their Greatest Hits too, which is REM in their early days. But for some reason I prefer their later music which I just posted! :wtf:
