PLS help find 80s song akin to ZZ TOP??

Hi all,

Please help me identify the song/artist from my long lost childhood...

It's a song of the 80s and I vaguely remember the video of a bearded frontman playing the guitar on the highway and it looks familiar to ZZ Top but I don't think it is! Sound was mellow and for some peculiar reason REM's Losing My Religion triggers an association.

Any help would be greatly cherished!!!

Some Zakk Wylde is what immediately comes to mind but he didn't have a beard in the 80s.

Chris Thompson of Manfred Mann's Earth Band had a beard and wore a big hat. They had a hit with Runner in the eighties.

definitely best suggestions appearance-wise but not quite ringing any bells soundwise. was something more along the lines of Status Quo's In the Army Now or Dire Straits Sultans of Swing i think! maybe it's all just a false memory lol? i can't seem to rest till i find it!!
