Roger Waters has emphatically ruled out a Pink Floyd reunion once and for all – saying the band “was over” in 1985 when he left.

In recent years relations between him and surviving members David GIlmour and Nick Mason have thawed to the point where all three appeared during a performance of Waters’ The Wall in 2011.

But that’s as far as it goes, says the former mainman.

He tells the Sun: “I can’t. I left Pink Floyd for very good reasons, and it was the right and proper thing to do. It was over in in 1985 – and it’s still over.”

But he admits: “I’m having dinner with Nick tonight. He’d jump back in a heartbeat.”

Despite thinking about retiring after the first round of The Wall shows, Waters has found himself staging more and more performances, with a series of massive open-air editions due this year.

But he admits the idea came from his wife – and he didn’t like it when she suggested it.

“I started to get itchy feet,” he recalls. “Laurie said, ‘You should go out on tour again, but if you do, there’s only one thing you can do: The Wall.

“I said, ‘Be quiet – you don’t understand!’ Then I started figuring out whether it was possible. Eventually I told her, ‘You know what? You were right.’”

The focus in the storyline has moved since Waters first delivered it as a “frightened youngish man.” He says: “I’m much less frightened and much more comfortable with audiences.

“I was determined that this show should not just tell the story of miserable little Roger Waters, but make it a much broader and theatrical piece about the walls that divide us – north and south, rich and poor, Christians and Muslims.”

He promises his concert at Wembley Stadium on September 14 will offer plenty for those who have seen previous performances. “We’re going from 28 projectors to 49,” he explains. “There will be a lot more detailed information, close-ups of me, the band – you won’t quite be sure of what’s going on.”

A few things about that statement don't sit right with me.

#1. If it was the so called "right thing to do" then why the bitter legal dispute to stop the other 3 members of PF from carrying on? Do the math and it comes out 3 -1 in favor of Roger getting the boot. This was largely the result of "The Wall" recording sessions I'm sure.

#2. Funny I saw PF when the Division Bell was released, and consider myself extremely fortunate I finally had a chance to see one of my favorite bands of all time. The show was STUPENDOUS...and I'm sure it would stand up to Roger's "Wall" extravaganza no matter how many gadgets and thematic changes he makes to the original. Don't get me wrong I like The Wall, but I only listen to it when I'm in a certain mood.

#3. I like Roger and respect him and what he's done over the years since he was "ejected" from Pink Floyd, but PF died with Rick Wright period. I'll take Momentary and the Division Bell over any of Roger's solo albums. I find it kind of an affront he didn't say one word about Rick's passing.:nw:

Having said all that, I hope he enjoys what time he has left and if he wants to tour the Wall for a few more years good luck to him.

All good points man...I can't disagree. I love the Wall as you know, but it's a bit of overkill ridin' the same wave over and over and over. I love Division Bell myself too!! Has Waters ever said what he thought of those albums without him?? He can't think they're s*** next to Radio Khaos...can he???

:wtf:

It was a sad loss. :(

Wasn't the whole issue back in the 80s about Wright being sacked?

That was after the fiasco during the "Final Cut" which Wright was supposed to produce, but he was in his coke addiction phase at the time so Water's sacked him. I don't know all the details though CP/M, they did hire Wright to tour for the Wall as a studio musician. But there is no doubt all of that drama led to the split.(Architect knows the whole story and timeline about the messy split.)

MP I've never read anything about what he thinks of PF's two studio albums without him in the band.:hm:

You are right though, his solo albums are nothing to write home about. Too damned depressing for my liking and I rarely dig them out and listen to them anymore. David's first solo album is one I play regularly.

That sucks that Roger can't bury the hatchet. I've never seen PF obviously, and would pay a large sum to do so. If Waters was playing.

I've got all of Roger's solo albums and I always stood by him as my favorite member. Over time though, I've appreciated David more BUT still hold The Wall as one of my all time favorite Floyd albums and accomplishments.

But the Waters solo albums (it seems) have taken a back seat in my everyday listening these days. Must pull them out again and see if they still tick at all.

Out of the three, I enjoy Amused To Death, Hitchiking and Khaos, in that order.

^^That's the order I've got them in as well, but I really never think of playing them anymore.

Some would say that Pink Floyd was over when Syd Barrett left.

Some might but not me, one decent album with Syd (Piper) is totally eclipsed by the later output of the band.;)
