A “SILLY LOVE SONGS” ANNIVERSARY
Brought To You By VH1’s Dave Basner

Sunday marks the 35th anniversary of Wings’ song “Silly Love Songs” beginning a five week run at number one on the singles chart. Paul McCartney spoke to us about the track.

“‘Silly Love Songs’ was kind of my answer to people sort of saying, ‘Why do you write sappy love songs, man?’ I kind of say, ‘What’s wrong with that? I mean, I like them, a lot of people like them.’”

Paul has been reissuing some of his early post-Beatles albums and while Wings at the Speed of Sound, the album featuring “Silly Love Songs,” hasn’t come out yet, Wings’ Band on the Run has. The next albums getting reissued are Paul’s solo albums McCartney and McCartney II, which hit shelves next month, but more will be out soon. Stay up to date at PaulMcCartney.com.

What a silly anniversary. In The Summertime was #1 for 7 weeks and doesn't have anniversaries, what's the point? Huh?

^^Has to do with Paul's legendary status, also the fact it was a retort to John Lennon for being critical of Paul's apparent commercial appeal at the expense of "serious music".

Then John releases Double Fantasy a few years later and it's as sappy as anything Paul ever did.

It's picked by a VH-1 staffer as well, so it's about ratings that's why it's worth talking about....even if you don't like silly love songs.:D

I like that Paul isn't tossing these re-issues out all at one time. Much easier and less frustrating doing one or two at a time.

Silly Love Songs...35 huh? WOW!!

I always thought that LG...and I'm a fan of Double Fantasy and all...but I was like...what was all the complaning about on Lennon's end. One of his best works too.

To be fair to John he recorded "Double Fantasy" after Paul and him had buried the hatchet, I remember Paul made the first gesture to rekindle their friendship, and at first John was hesitant but then he mellowed and they were on very good terms afterward.

I don't own that album...I was happy he had success with it but found it...well boring.

Really??? Well to be fair I wouldn't rank it as high as Plastic Ono Band or Imagine :heheh: :grinthumb

Yeah this was after they buried the hatchet. I still would have liked to have seen if they had called Lorne Michaels (Saturday Night Live) on his offer to reunite the Beatles for 3,000 Dollars (if you want to give Ringo less that's up to you :heheh:) in 1975.

Story has it they almost went down to SNL studios as Paul and John were in John' place at the time of the live airing.

^^If Double Fantasy had 0 Yoko content, then perhaps I wouldn't be so harsh...it's not that I hate the album, but I like his earlier work better, it has the edge I associate with John.
