Totally agree. I never thought about it before but it makes perfect sense.
How can you construct a good pop song today when you're building it off of crap from 2-3 years ago?
The record industry is just as guilty as anyone else. They used to go out and hunt talent. Take a chance. Gamble a little bit.
They probably still do. On a limited basis, I reckon. But why bother?
Now, they have cattle calls where hundreds go on tv and get whittled down to a few, and those few are signed.
Heck, the risk is gone. the people have already voted for them. They're popular. The execs know they're gonna sell. Cha-Ching.
Why should 'artists' be bothered to have any roots, when all they gotta do is watch TV to see what they need to do.
And who's gonna buy it? Yup. The same people that watch those cattle call shows are the same ones that are gonna leave that bland, cardboard-tasting 25 minutes of music an hour radio stations.
Laziness. Listen to whatever is slopped into the trough in front of them.
I feel kinda sorry for those people, you know? They have no idea what they're missing. They're satified to listen to what's there.
They aren't like us, they don't have the Music Gene. Or Music Bone. Or Music Jones.
We don't care about what there is to listen to. We care about what
else there is to listen to.
That's why I always listen to at least 1 song in here every day. Be it a band I don't know or a song I don't know.
These people are not passive about their music, and you never know what might scratch that itch.
