also on the side, im really suprised not to see any grateful dead threads haha, i love them, but i mean i dont browse the 60s rock section much and i know GD was great during the 70s - 80s too, but why arent there more threads on them haha

Re: new riders of the purple sage anyone??

I really like NRPS. They were playing all through the sixties, but they didn't record an album until the 70's. I think their first album was released in 71. A very good underrated band with very good music.

Re: new riders of the purple sage anyone??

I saw NRPS open for the Dead in Detroit in maybe 1970 or 1971 at the Eastowne Theater. Jerry Garcia played peddle steel for the Riders and then played with Dead. They started about nine and when I left at four the next morning, they were still jamming to a house mostly blasted on psychedelics and cocaine.

Re: New Riders of the Purple Sage

eberg!

I'm not surprised you started this theard!

:cheers2

I love the New Riders of the Purple Sage...

I have all of their 70's albums..., well most of them...''New Riders of the Purple Sage'', ''Powerglide'', ''The Adventures of Panama Red'' are my favorites...I also have three live albums and a couple of bootleg concerts.

I seen most of the original line up when they opened for The Charlie Daniels Band at the big ol' Nassau Coliseum back in the very early 80's....what a kick ass southern double bill - NRPS and the CDB!!

I personally think the New Riders didn't really sound like the Grateful Dead too much, after the first album....they developed their own sound quickly. One of my favorite country rock bands...I love 'em.

17 PINE AVENUE features 12 new songs, 7 of which were written by David Nelson and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, including "Prisoner of Freedom," "Fivio" and "Suite at the Mission." The NRPS renaissance continues to grow with the release of 17 Pine Avenue —psychedelic Americana at its finest
