I grew up in the 1960's and 70's and heard a lot of intense songs during my youth, but I swear this song from 1989 trumps them all and sums up my earlier feelings of alienation and anger...

Something I Can Never Have - Nine Inch Nails

That song definitely would have freaked my parents out if I had been living at home at the time.

I'm starting to scare myself....

Oh yeah! They would have loved that line :)

So...I don't know. If you can think of an intense song that you identify with you can post it here.

Grey would be the color if I had a heart.

Or just ignore this alcohol fueled thought. It's a Friday night.

The only other song that might be more intense from the 1970's is this one... :)

Playground In My Mind - Clint Holmes

And this is a rare picture of 9 y/o Philip Vance at the recording session who sang in this song as the child in the chorus...Yes, he was Michael, but very cool and only playing a part:

BTW Philip Vance, son of the song writer Paul Vance, died at the age of 44 in 2009. The picture came from his father's website:

If you listen to it, it's actually a pretty fun and innocent song from 1973. My friends and I made fun of it back then, of course. But how could we have possibly identified with a song with a theme of drifting back to childhood when we were just children ourselves.

Okay, I'm officially drunk :)

HELL
I thought it was about energy and if that was the case I would say hit the lights by metallica.

That's my favorite NIN song aside from The Perfect Drug. Intensity in music is not all speed and volume! :grinthumb

BTW the second song is just a joke folks, the result of too much booze. It's a song my friends and I used to make fun of back in the day, a huge hit on the radio back in 1973. One of my friends had the first name Michael and whenever we wanted to piss him off we'd sing "My name is Michael, I've got a nickel..." etc.. You get the idea :)

As an adult I can at least understand that song better, and feel bad that the kid we made fun of died at a relatively young age. My post was a memorial tribute to him. He probably had to put up with a lot of shit in his life because of that song.

The things you can find on YouTube....

But I'll add this warning:

This song may get stuck in your head forever if you fall into the trance. Be careful!

Exactly. The song "Sniper" by Harry Chapin is a perfect example. Very intense back in the day...

The Doors "When The Music's Over" was pretty intense back then. We all knew Morrison was a bit crazy...and intense.

He scared the shit out of some parents back then, trust me.

Speaking of Manson, I'm pretty sure this song is about him. He produced JOJ, and helped them out...But I guess he wrote some bull shit about them in his book, saying they were just groupies...In all of Manson's wildest dreams, he will never a be a zillionth of what JOJ is... Anyway, this is a pretty intense song...I ****ing love this band.
