This will be blasphemous on here but I don't really care for Painkiller. The title track is good but the rest of the album doesn't really do much for me, I much prefer Black Sabbath / 70s Priest style metal. I also prefer the simplistic approach Holland took to drumming as opposed to Scott's complexity: as such I like the 1980s versions of songs like Electric Eye and Breaking the Law more for this reason, Travis makes them way to complex for my liking and I have also noted a couple of errors and missed notes on DVD releases of him playing those songs, you could have put Dave Holland in the middle of an earthquake and he'd still never miss a note.

I love Painkiller, killer track and album, I like all Priest, I went to Amsterdam last weekend and treated myself to their new album, I have listened to around 3 tracks so far and it is an impressive release imo. I think they are still making good albums and they should continue whilst they can and they can keep em heavy for me:bow:

Have the deluxe edition now with the 5 extra tracks. Hoping the extra 5 are as awesome as the main album is.

^^ Imo the 5 bonus tracks are well worth getting! They are not just throw away material and the Ecolbook looks cool, although the cover is a bit too glossy :heheh:

As for the album itself, it's really damn good! Definitely better than “Nostradamus”, but I’m not sure I’d rate it above "Angel of Retribution". It's definitely right up there and maybe with time, I will prefer it. Either way, I am well pleased, even the 3 tracks that had not impressed me much previously, sound a lot better when blasting on the stereo. Hail to the Priest!

I like the melody of the closing track Beginning of the End. I enjoy Judas Priest ballads.

Redeemer of Souls is pretty good, I've only listened to it twice so far, but I do like it. I think Ian's bass playing is possibly the best bass sound I've heard on a Priest album, ever. Scott's drumming is outstanding as always. Rob's vocals are very good. I had read reviews that he was only a shadow of his former self, and I guess if you compare it with Painkiller, then yeah, it's a step down, but compared to his solo work in Halford or Fight, he's doing just fine. The screams aren't quite as high as before, but it's still very good.

The guitar work is probably the most spotty. I'm not saying that as any sort of a slam on Richie or "I wish they still had KK", so don't take it that way. I just think that in places, some of the riffs and even the solos are a bit of a yawner. NOt bad by any means, but certainly nothing that made me say "HOLY SHIT THAT WAS AWESOME!"

But, again, I've only listened to it twice so far, I plan on giving it full attention later this week and I'm sure with a few more spins, I'll like it more.

Overall, a very good album, definitely better than Nostradamus and at least as good as Retribution.
Interesting points. What did you think of particularly Crossfire's guitar sound?

Well, I have listened again and the album is still brilliant, it's like listening to an old friend, I can't believe it is so good. I love it and will keep playing it, had it on with some great cans and wow...

One of my fave tracks is.....battle cry

Looking forward to getting the new one!

I was watching a game show called At Midnight and they showed a YouTube clip of a Judas Priest tribute band called....Nudist Priest (Yes, they play Priest songs nude with guitars covering their privates)
