At first I wasn't into the new album when the title track came out. I wasn't impressed with March Of The Damned. Then Draganout came out and I loved it. Then MOTD grew on me and I love it. I could see it on Killing Machine or POE. Redeemer of Souls still does nothing for me.
That leaves what has come out in the last day. Wow. Amazing metal by the masters.
Halls Of Valhalla - Sounds like the natural progression from Halford's Crucible to AoR and Nostradamus to now. The first real taste of some Halford screams. The chorus sounds like it'd belong on Crucible for sure. Even has a brief growl on it that Rob occasionally will bust out live.
Sword Of Damocles - What a heavy slab of metal. The heaviest track they've maybe ever done? Halford's vocals are awesome on this. But the riffs steal the show.
Down In Flames - Another fantastic chorus. Classic Priest. This is the classic 80's sound that many have wanted to hear. Is it as good as the best of that era? Probably not but it'd sure fit in nicely.
Hell & Back - There is a guitar part on this track that reminds me of Love Bites. not sure how else to explain it. Other than that this one will have to grow on me.
Cold Blooded - I think I like this song. But I do get kinda bored by it.
Metalizer - Sounds like a track called Metalizer should. Reminds me of Machine Man off Demolition with a bit of some random part from Nostradamus thrown in.
Crossfire - LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. Dat heavy bluesy Rocka Rolla sound. Already may be one of my favorite Priest tracks.
Secrets of The Damned - if someone had told me this was a Halford -Crucible bonus track i'd believe them. That's what it sounds like. Good thing Crucible bonus tracks are killer.
Battle Cry - fans of the Painkiller album will like this one.
Beginning Of The End - My favorite track on the album. My gosh Priest know how to do a ballad as good as any metal track. Just another example of that here. Beautiful track.
Overall I'd consider this a very good release. Faulkner fill in nicely. I didn't once while listening think to myself, "i miss KK" I'm sure many will be saying that but what can you do.
If you are looking for the screaming metal god i'm afraid those days are done. Halford still remains the cream of the crop when it comes to metal vocalist and shines yet again.
