Journey Donates to Philippines Relief Effort

The devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan has mobilized the world in relief efforts. Among those who have contributed are Journey, who have donated $350,000 to the cause.

Billboard is reporting that the band, along with Live Nation Entertainment, Creative Artists Agency and their manager, John Baruck, have given the money to the United Nations’ World Food Program (WFP). The funds will be able to provide 1.4 million meals.

This particular tragedy hits close to home for them because their lead singer, Arnel Pineda, is from the Philippines. He has taken the lead on the fundraising and appeared on Anderson Cooper’s CNN show on Friday (Nov. 15) to discuss the situation.

“We’re honored to have Journey’s support and Arnel Pineda’s leadership on this incredible donation for WFP’s emergency relief in the Philippines,” said Hunter Biden of World Food Program USA in a statement on Journey’s Facebook page. “Their support is going to make a real difference for so many Filipino children and families in need.”

The band have set up a page at World Food Program for their fans to contribute, with a goal set at $50,000. “Don’t stop believin’ in the Phillipines,” the page reads at the top. You can join their efforts here, or instantly donate $10 by texting the word AID to 27722.

Saw some of the reports/videos of the aftermath, one helluva storm for sure. Nice gesture by Journey to do what they can to help. These storms are going to get stronger as the oceans continue to warm up, not sure what can be done for people who are unfortunate enough to live in the path of these behemoths...:dunno:
