Great picks Sox!

A couple of my favorites, although I'm hard pressed not to call most of his library "my favorites"

Jimi Hendrix Appreciation Thread

I was shocked to find nobodty has made a Jimi Hendrix Appreciation Thread yet. Hendrix had more of an impact in his 6 year career than most do in a 20 year career. Jimi was more than just a great guitarist. He was special because he was a rule breaker. He brooke all the rules as far as what could go into one riff. He would mix his buddy guy influence with appegios and crazy out of this world feedback. He saw nothing wrong with the wind cries mary and Fire being on the same record. He was free of what most of us musicians will always carry with us and that is our lessons. No guitar teacher would teach you to play the way jimi does. From playing barre chords with his thumb(many guitarists like john mayer have copied this way of playing barre chords) Not to mention his inovative recording techniques and use of feedback. Anyone that has attempted to control feedback knows it is about a 50 50 chance of something amazing happen and something terrible. Also he is an underated singer. I like his vocals in songs like "Red House," "little Wing," and "Castles Made Of Sand," The influence that you can hear in thousands of guitarists today is the greatest example of his legacy.

I actually prefer this version of voodo child.

Red House shows how he had his own syle of blues. He stayed away from 12 bar blues

Nice to see you writing again Greg. I am not a huge Hendrix fan, I do have 4 of his albums and I can't deny his impact on an entire generation of musicians but I have to admit I don't play his music very often.:peek

I do appreciate his work! My earliest Hendrix memory is this track which I heard off of "Waynes World"! :grinthumb

Foxy Lady
(A fun track)

My favorite would be this one:

The Wind Cries Mary

I think Mr. Shadow would love to contribute to this thread! :grinthumb

Great thread!

I don't think I ever heard a Hendrix song I didn't like.

Re: The Jimi Hendrix Experience

I know I've shared my opinions of Hendrix & Zeppelin in this forum somewhere saying I've never been a big fan of either but do enjoy some of their work.
I still don't see Hendrix as a god (just my opinion...He must be if so many millions see him as a god) but lately I've really been into a lot of his stuff. I always like his cover tunes. I really love the version of Johnny B. Goode that Groovy posted along with his covers of Hound Dog, Wild Thing, Born Under a Bad Sign, Mannish Boy, Sunshine of Your Love, & Blue Suede Shoes(by the Way I do enjoy that Midnight Lightning album). As of late I've been enjoying him & appreciate him more than I ever have
