Looks like Ian is staying close to home for most of 2014, but he always tours over here eventually after releasing new material.

Nice to see him get recognition and cool that it's a hard core prog/rock fan presenting it. I've never felt that prog was 'unfashionable', then again I pay very little attention to the mainstream media these days when it comes to music so it's possible I've lost touch with reality.:peek

Jethro Tull Announce Deluxe ‘Benefit’ Reissue

Jethro Tull‘s third album is getting the deluxe reissue treatment this fall.

‘Benefit,’ released in April 1970, marked a pivotal spot in the band’s catalog, with songs that found them drifting further from the heavily blues-influenced sound of their debut and a lineup that saw keyboardist John Evan arriving just as bassist Glenn Cornick was on his way out. The 10-track set incorporated more progressive elements and more involved production techniques — and it was a sizable hit too, peaking at No. 3 on the U.K. album chart.

On Oct. 29, Rhino Records will release a newly remastered and expanded edition of ‘Benefit’ that adds another CD’s worth of material, as well as a DVD containing 5.1 surround mixes of the album plus bonus tracks. Additionally, the LP is restored to its original U.K. and U.S. running orders and comes in “a handsome booklet filled with rare photographs, an essay by Martin Webb, and interviews with band members.”

Rhino will also offer a digital edition of the record, minus the DVD content, for $14.99; the physical edition is listed at $29.98. Have a look at the CD track listing below.

Would love Rhino to release the entire discography on new 180 gram vinyl, well right up to and including Broadsword and the Beast, but I picked up a near mint copy of "Benefit" at a used record shop last year so I'm not likely to get the new re-issue.

Nothing much for me to say about Tull & I probably will pick up the Benefit CD/DVD but the reason I posted here is that I'm just amazed how almost everyday there are posts for Jethro Tull! I would say probably the top 3 bands on this site with constant posting has to be (in no order) Tull, Kiss , & Zeppelin!

^^We seem to have a nucleus of Tull fanatics that have kept this thread going for a long time Bucky.

I just read KH's link and they are releasing a new HQ vinyl edition, with Stephen Wilson's remix of the original studio tapes...that I do find interesting and most likely will buy a copy if it makes it to our shops.

SFTW is excellent, and I've always liked "Passion Play" myself, people tend to dismiss it because TAAB was so well received they thought Tull was repeating itself when PP came afterward. Of course I just bought a brand new copy of "Tales of Topographic Oceans" double vinyl gatefold release so I'm biased and don't mind concept albums that consist of a complete side or two of a record.;)

That would be pretty damn amazing. I wonder why they haven't?

Probably all about profit vs production costs. Packaging the Beatles complete discog on vinyl and releasing it is one thing, you are bound to make some money, bands with less commercial appeal like Jethro Tull are lucky to have a handful of their better known albums re-released on new wax. I've made do with hunting down good quality used albums, so far I'm happy with most of my acquisitions.
