Depends because sometimes the band label's youtube channel puts albums on there too. If you mean users without the required permission then I agree.

Yeah, general users posting whole albums without permission is what I meant. YT filters are pretty easily fooled.

I think it's helped the industry a lot, actually. Bands get more advertisement (I don't know if that's the right word, but you get the point). As @Ar-Pharazon said, there are several bands that I've only seen on YouTube. The only thing is, as mentioned, people post whole albums on YouTube and then find illegal ways to upload it to ITunes etc. It's great for us as fans but really sucks for the artist. I think posting albums on YT is not a problem as long as people don't get it to ITunes. That's stealing and it's illegal. They need to find ways that they can fix the problem of people turning videos into free.

I still think YouTube has had a positive influence, but there are some things that need to get fixed.

There's nothing stopping anyone from downloading straight from YT. I have an app called MP4 Downloader. I use it to download music videos, and the occasional single, but I could easily download those whole albums and use some other app to split it into individual tracks.

I know you can do it, but it is illegal. You have to buy from ITunes or import discs. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's the way it is.

There are so many songs, albums that I purchased after hearing them on YT that I wouldn't have purchased otherwise. Sure the music industry wants it the way it use to be when people bought bad music without being able to listen to it first. That was the good old rip people off days.

What makes me angry is the way YT killed off its competition Grooveshark. Tell me how Grooveshark did anything different than YT did. But YT is owned by big money and has powerful lawyers that the music industry doesn't want to fight with.

YT is not killing the music industry. the music industry is killing the music industry.

They were a monopoly left for dead by another monopoly. If YT is making money off music then let YT pay residuals. If people are able to pirate that's the tubes problem to solve, which they could.

what a joke. so many years and nothing has changed
