I am not really a fan of rock ballads, but I'll make an exception for Brad Delp. I find this track almost impossible to listen to since he passed away. The Budgie track is a slow ballad, but it isn't gentle! Tony Bourge is better than most other guitarists put together.

They are a symphonic metal band from Sweden. If you never heard Therion before, check it out Vovin, that's one of their best albums IMO.

Only Women Bleed by Alice Cooper apparently uses menstruation as a metaphor for physical abuse. It came as a shock at the time, not for its subject matter, but due the fact that it is a quiet ballad.

Julie Covington's version was equally surprising, as she turned down the stage role of Evita to record this instead. Although her version is as good as Alice's, she seemed self-destructive for some reason.
