1997 gives us 6 new inductees. Thanks go out to our 14 voters. That is the most we have had in a while, and I hope that kind of turnout continues. Congrats go out to:

Just missing induction this week were Jethro Tull and Nazareth. With 5 of the 6 new inductees having been shunned from Cleveland, we have really taken a big turn away from the Cleveland Hall this voting period. Which, in my opinion, was kind of the idea of the project, so I am pleased. The new 5 now give us 19 artists that have not been inducted to Cleveland. The complete list of Hall of Fame members we have elected:

1986
Chuck Berry
Buddy Holly
Elvis Presley
Johnny Cash
Jerry Lee Lewis

Re: Help nominate the new hall class(week13-1998) Eagles, Michael Jackson, Scorpions,

We now move on to the 1998 nominations. As usual this is a two part process. Select 15 artists from the lists below, with a maximum of 5 from the newly eligible artist list to nominate for induction. The lists are long, but not necessarily all inclusive. If somebody doesn’t appear below that you want to vote for, feel free as long as they made their debut in 1972 or before, and aren’t already inducted (see the list above). Again, vote for 15, only 5 from newly eligible (or less, you certainly don’t have to pick 5 newly eligible). Voting will go through Sunday May 6. Enjoy!

Re: Help nominate the new hall class(week13-1998) Eagles, Michael Jackson, Scorpions,

Just something to consider as there are some old rock legends that we have not honored that I feel it would be hard not to honor. Some names for consideration:

Dion
Bobby Darin
The Drifters
Wilson Pickett
Gladys Knight
Bob Marley
Bob Seger

just something to consider. If it doesn't happen, so be it.

Bravo

Just imagine how big this induction ceremony would have been for a real Rock Hall class of 1997, right up there with the best ever!

Re: Help nominate the new hall class(week13-1998) Eagles, Michael Jackson, Scorpions,

One thing this little exercise has shown me (I already knew it, but this has totally proven it)...

the RnR HoF, it if REALLY wanted to be legit, would need to change the number of artists it allows in every year. What worked for 1958 can NOT work for 1988. Simply look at the pyramid diagram of potential inductees from one year to the next. Letting in just a few every year while the number of new potentials grows almost exponentially is a `pyramid` that fails on SO many levels.
