H P Lovecraft

H. P. Lovecraft (1967)
H. P. Lovecraft II (1968)
Valley of the Moon (1970)
We Love You Whoever You Are (1975)
Live May 11, 1968 (1991)

This band is for all those people out there hanging on to the phychedelic 60's. HP Lovecraft formed in the mid 60's and put out two albums. They broke up and reformed in the 70's as Lovecraft and eventually morphed into Love Craft.

If you haven't guessed it by now, the band gets its influence from the great macabre writer, H. P. Lovecraft. They have very rich vocal harmonies and the music is enriched with some lush organ and piano parts and ochestral parts juxtaposed into the music.

The debut album came out in 1967, a S/T album:

The music is not only psychedelic but has an eerie haunting quality. You also will hear some jazz and folk influences as well.

You should recognize this song, it is a really good cover of the Kingston Trio original:

Re: H P Lovecraft

I thought about posting these guys in Joe's obscure 70's Prog thread when he first made it but never got around to it. Here's a couple I like off of II

These guys are pretty cool, a bit ahead of their time, IMHO.

Definitely a psychedelic song!

The video you posted, DKW, "At the Mountains of Madness" is a direct influence from H.P. Lovecraft, very mind altering song :D

LOVE HP Lovecraft!

I have their first two albums on one CD (love when bands do that!) and their live album.

Psychedelic-folkish kind of stuff...quality music.

That is exactly how I found them by researching Lovecraft. I was pretty impressed with their vocal harmony and some of their recording techniques. Way ahead of their time, IMO.
