girls under glass

GIRLS UNDER GLASS are a hot Electro -Industrial Darkwave band from Hamburg Germany. They also happen to be my favourite band from the 90s!!!
Formed in 1986 ,originally known under the name CALLING DEAD ROSES.
GIRLS UNDER GLASS released their debut album "Humus" in 87.Their early albums were dark, moody gothic affairs......while later albums like "Firewalker" touched on the harder metal/ industrial edge darkwave, more familiar to bands like Rammstien or Ministry....
Here on C.R.F I know most people here are open minded to alternative music...so I hope you like them.
Starting off with two radio friendly tracks........

:bonk: oh must I L.G :wa....There are so many genres of music,...its not that its the subgenres that confuse/annoy people
The term "Darkwave" is a subgenre from the Gothic era of the 80s....bands inspired by Joy Division ,Siouxsie and the Banshees,Depeche Mode,Fad Gadget,etc....often these bands have the use of a synth/sequencer to a drum machine backing.......and with"dark" lyrical content
Any clearer? me neither lol......music is music to me........and dont ask me about other subgenres off gothic.......Deathrock,Ethereal wave,Neo classical,etc......but I will do a feature on" coldwave" on CRF sometime.....:heheh:

That reminds me LG Canada has a very fine "darkwave" band in PSYCHE....They have been going since the 80s.Ihave seen them twice and have cds and a dvd of theirs :grinthumb

Okay I know Depeche Mode and Joy Division a little never heard them described as "Darkwave" but it fits.

Thanks for the "illuminating" answer LOU, if someone asks me about this genre I will simply point them to this thread.:grinthumb

:oyea: @ Sweaty :D I love Girls Under Glass and yes Im with Sweaty, I was introduced to the group by Lou (not in the flesh lol).

Love the tracks that you have put up btw. I dont understand the subgenres etc, why do ppl have to keep changing things?

Gothic to me evolved for me from what was once described as "alternative" in the 80s it was alternative, if you liked Numan, Soft Cell etc, it was either alternative or you were "weird". Ive been referred to the later frequently :D

Then came Sisters of Mercy The Mission The Nephilim and it was now Gothic, Electric has gone onto Industrial and so it goes.

I agree Lou, it isnt about the genre its about the music, why does the industry have to keep changing the brand? I guess its all about making money and keeping it "hip".

You must show me your collection of G.U.G Im sure I would like all the tracks, maybe we should post some "Dream Diciples" up on CRF :D

Thats another band that I'd give a massive :grinthumb
