Anyone here into the G3 tour. I saw it in '97 with Satch, Vai and Kenny Wayne Shepherd (?). Kenny Wayne was OK (he replaced Eric Johnson for the leg I saw  ) but once Vai came out it was like "...who was that last guy?"
Robert Fripp came out for the encore and they did Going Down and Zappa's My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama.

Didn't see the tour, but Satch and Vai are gods, although Vai speaks to me more on a personal level. Kenny Wayne . . .a Stevie Ray "knock off," but with less flare. Sorry to hear you got aced out of seeing Clapton. My sis wanted to take me to a Cream show back in about '67 or '68, at the Fillmore West auditorium in San Francisco, but my dad (dear old dad!!) wouldn't let me go 'cause the fillmore was in a bad district of town, and he was worried about that. SONOFABITCH! Anyway, I'm a drummer, and I was a huge fan of Ginger Baker. Those were the days when I really enjoyed Clapton's long guitar jambs. Was in Denver several years ago and went to a music(drum) store where Ginger Baker was doing a drum "clinic." I even have it on a video. That was a dream come true for me.

Man do I feel young, wait..I am. I would have loved to see Cream in concert. Funny thing is, I still haven't seen Eric in concert yet either.. :(

Shaggy, yup, Cream and Hendrix were my two main bands back in the 60's. Didn't see Cream, but got to see Hendrix a few months before he died.
Hey TeleCat, ooops! You DID say Eric Johnson, didn't you. I was thinkin' to myself when I read your post, "MMM? That's weird that Clapton would be teamed up with these particular kind of guitar players." Well, my bad! E J is a kick ass guitar player. Haven't got to see him yet.

Tele, do you know of Mark Cole, kinda a cross between Satch and Vai, IMO(well, sorta, for lack of a better description). He's really clean sounding. Think he used to play with a band called CHARGE. Is that right? And btw, I do like Deep Purple, but never saw them in concert.

No, never heard of him. I like guitar instumentals so I'd probably be into him though. Thanks for the tip, I'll check him out.

Yup. Fripp played seated and what I remember most was his sustain. It seemed like the notes he played resonated for days. He only came out for the encore though. This was at Sunrise Musical Theater in South Florida. I don't know if he hung around for any more shows on the tour.

Hey TeleCat, I mentioned Mark Cole a few posts ago. You can here some of his stuff at sampleaccurate.com . . .. .click on "original songs" , then scroll down to "Vaughandrix." Click on the CD icon and have a listen. Hope u like it. :p
Also, you may already be familiar with this site, soundclick.com . It's a place u can go to and listen to all sorts of music. It's kinda like the old MP3.com site.
