Festivals - Past and Present

^^English currency was worth a lot more back in 1970 than it is now. I would say a Pound Sterling would have been worth between $3-$5 US. At one time it was $7 to one Pound.

I'd say it was the equivalent of about $10 for the all day pass back in 1970.

That is all just a rough guess though.

Thanks! In the early 70`s I was paying anywhere from 5 to 10 dollars US to see 2 bands, sometimes 3 in a night so the ticket price for the Bath Festival was a hell of a good deal!

The line up was so good for the High Voltage 2010 I thought it was well worth putting up.

Very impressive line up Sox ! The prog stage looks good ...cant go wrong with Heep and Wishbone Ash. I bet you were in your element with E.L.P
As for my own festivals Ive been to include..

Monsters of Rock [Castle Donington ] twice
Hard Rock Hell [Wales ]..............Heep,U.F.O.Saxon.Helloween, etc
Rock and Blues [ Pentritch ]........Scorpions .M.S.G etc
Mera Luna [Germany ] twice........Sisters of Mercy.Placebo.Editors.Prodigy etc

There are a few more but the brain cells not working at the moment.....

Oh yes Ive also been fortunate to have played some festivals too with the bands THE REALM and 13 CANDLES. Probably the most impressive was the Dracfest at Whitby on the same bill as Hawkwind.The Damned.Stranglers,Lene Lovich,Cathedral etc


Still my favorite festival was the first ever MONSTERS OF ROCK in 1980. It was a big adventure for me at the time.....I had bought a motorcycle and was determined to see my rock heroes SCORPIONS . Priest and Riot ! They rocked........

They were great LG !! APRIL WINE went down well and Im very fortunate to have seen them on top form .Mr Mercer is one demon of a drummer. Perhaps the band that struggled were openers TOUCH who to be fair were unknown to the uk public. Seeing my heroes SCORPIONS was superb....but JUDAS PRIEST and Rob Halford stole the show that night. Biggest dissapointment......RAINBOW with Bonnet [ Sorry he just wasnt in the same class as Dio ]

You saw them All in their prime LOU, what more can you ask for?(I agree about Rainbow without Dio they lost quite a bit.)
