"There's no comprehending
Just how close to the bone
and the skin and the eyes
And the lips you can get
And still feel so alone"

Joe Walsh - Time Out

The maids are in the hallway
Bangin' on the door
Askin' what that funny smell was
Wake you up to tell you it's OK to sleep some more
By the way is there any you could sell us?

A line I use now and then with clients:

"Every way you look at this, you lose." Paul Simon--"Mrs. Robinson"

In a state of deep, deep fascination
One of my favorites, from the song When The Music's Over:

"I want to hear,
I want to hear
the scream
of the butterfly!"

Who would have thought something like that up? Only Jim I guess. It's genius though.

"They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I’m coming now, I’m coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin"

- Leonard Cohen, 'First We Take Manhattan'

Here's a couple lines I've quoted before that capture the human condition:

Just give me one thing that I can hold on to
To believe in this living is just a hard way to go

Whever I get into a situation I don't like I quite often quote Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendricks.

"There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief,
There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief."

Most often people just look at me like I am nuts.

"Where am I to go now that I've gone too far?" "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring (heard it in the car tonight)

...my tastes are all over the map...LOL

I was gone for fourteen days, I could have been gone for more;
Held up in intensive care ward, Lying on the floor.
I was gone for all those days,But I was not all a-lone;
I made friends with a lot of people in the danger zone
See my lonely life unfold...I see it every day
See my only mind explode, since I've gone away
- Alice Cooper: The Ballad of Dwight Frye
====================================
Ooh she may be weary
And them young girls they do get weary
Wearing that same old shaggy dress
But when they get weary
[You gotta] try a little tenderness

You know she's waiting
Just anticipating
The thing that she'll never, never, possess,no,no
But while she's without it
Go to her and try just a little bit of tenderness
-Otis Redding: Try A Little Tenderness
=======================================
Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my surface hid
Smiling in the crowd I try
But in a lonely room I cry
The tears of a clown
- Smokey Robinson & The Miracles: Tears of A Clown (Pagliacci...wowwwwwwww!)

....has to be one of the most horrific set of lyrics ever laid down on paper...

Laying here looking at the ceiling
Someone lays a sheet across my chest
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back

I try to move my arms and there's no feeling
And when I look I see there's nothing there
The face beside me stopped it totally bleeding
The girl I knew has such a distant stare

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Then I looked straight at the attendant
His face is pale as it can be
He bends and whispers something softly
He says there's no chance for me

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air

Life is flowing out my body
Pain is flowing out with my blood
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying
God in Heaven, teach me how to die

I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
I remember
We were flying along and hit something in the air
- Bloodrock: D.O.A.

Thanks, Doc! Great to see Otis get some props on a classic rock site. And that's one of my favorite Otis numbers. But that lyric goes back further. I've got a version of Bing Crosby doing it in 1933. :)
