Are there certain words in a song that strike a chord with you? Words that make you smile or frown or recall a memory every time you hear a song?

Here's one for me:

I'm just living on nerves and feelings
With a weak and a lazy mind

Here's another:

Some are mathemeticians
Some are carpenter's wives
I don't know how it all got started
I don't know what they're doin' with their lives

One of mine would be "...consider this the hint of the century..." No deep reasons, just really like it.

There are more I'm sure but I can't think of them at the moment. Will get back to this later. Great topic. :)

From "Up To Me" by Dylan:

"In 14 months/I only smiled once/And I didn't do it consciously"

From "For No One" by McCartney/Lennon

"Your day breaks/Your mind aches"

From "Sally G" by McCartney

"I never thought to ask her what the letter "G" stood for/but I know for sure it wasn't 'good' "

From "Real Bad News" by Aimee Mann

"You don't know, so don't say you do--You don't
You might think that things will change, But take my word--They won't"

From "Humpty Dumpty" by Aimee Mann

"I'm not the girl you once put your faith in
just someone who looks like me"

From "Beyond Belief" by Elvis Costello

"History repeats/The old conceits
The glib replies/The same defeats"

And, same song:

"So in this almost empty gin palace
Through a two-way looking glass
You see your Alice"

From "Down To You" by Joni Mitchell

"Everything comes and goes/marked by lovers and styles of clothes"

From "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" by Billy Joel

"Life is a series of hellos and goodbyes
I'm afraid it's time for goodbye again"

From "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd

"We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year"

I could go on awhile. And may.

That is a good, but sad one. I'll have to dig out that song.

From Rush's "Freewill"

If you choose not to decide
You still have made a choice

Here are a few more:

Why am I soft in the middle
The rest of my life is so hard

and

Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
That's me and I want you only

and

Takes the wheel when I'm seein' double
Pays my ticket when I speed

and

She shows you where to look
Among the garbage and the flowers

and

How slow and slow and slow it goes
To mend the tear that always shows

Knocking at Your Back Door - Deep Purple

So we put her on the hit list,
Of a common cunning linguist,
A master of many tongues.
Now she eases gently from her Austin to her Bentley
Suddenly she feels so young.

Thought of a couple more:

"The last time I saw Elvis, he was shooting at a color tv..." Neil Young.

"Welcome to Grafitti Land...say what you mean, mean what you say, rant and roll when you feel that way." John Trudell.
