Jerry Lee Lewis - Mean Woman Blues...the opening song on his brilliant 1964 album, 'Live at the Star Club, Hamburg.'...it would be hard to dispute that this album is one of the greatest ever old school live rock n roll albums of the 60s, if not all time.

only one word to describe this...EPIC....Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird...this recorded in that mad hot baking UK summer of 1976 at The Knebworth Festival ( just north of London.)..it was crazy hot that summer...The Rolling Stones were the headliners, and other acts that day included 10cc, Todd Rundgren and Hot Tuna...Many have said that Lynyrd Skynyrd blew the Stones away that day...The front of the stage projected out in the shape of the Rolling Stones tongue, and apparently Mick Jagger had told the other bands they were not to perform out on the tongue, it was only for himself when the Stones were to play...Lynyrd Skynyrd ignored this and by all accounts Jagger was left fuming..that probably shot his massive ego into tiny pieces, lol.

But I do like some of their catalog here and there.

Why I Hate “Free Bird” — THE BITTER SOUTHERNER

All these years later, you still can’t get away from “Free Bird.” Warrington Williams still hates it, and has since day one.

yes, me too never been a massive fan of them, undoubtedly they have had many great songs and they are great musicians..the main reason i never really got into them was there were a lot of keyboards in their music, i am certainly not disparaging of Jon Lord in anyway at all, he was a mighty fine keyboardist but i am not a massive fan of keyboards in hard rock music...drums, bass and guitars is enough for me...my all time fave band are Thin Lizzy, superb band with the classic line-up of Lynott, Downey, Gorham and Robertson..but when Robbo left the band they were never really the same again, the hard drugs kicked in which was their main downfall and when they introduced keyboards into their music on their last couple of albums you knew the band were never ever gonna be reaching the heights again..Not having a go at Darren Wharton here coz his keyboards were good, but it was NEVER Lizzy for me.

i could never tire of that song, an all time epic for me...plenty of songs that are overplayed that do my head in but never Freebird.

One of my favorite bands with maybe my favorite live track by them....done in Germany(2008)
I consider Porcupine Tree to be the finest modern prog band of the last 25 years...imho no one comes close to the melody, songs, literate lyrics and virtuosity.
