While thinking that Jack White’s "Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016" album had so much potential to be much more than it was. I got to thinking what are my favorite all time acoustic albums or recordings.
I most enjoy stripped down, sparse styles that reach back to garage or blues styles. Most enjoyable are those that attack the Guitar and play it like they mean it. cover songs are embraced and never discouraged here. studio or live recordings
My top 10 acoustic albums/recordings are below. What are your favorites?
1) Mississippi Fred McDowell (1971)
Recorded 1962 in Fred’s living room in Como, Mississippi.
My favorite acoustic album may just be the best recording ever made.
2) Acoustic KO (1994) DVD/CD - Iggy Pop
3) Butt Town (1990) – Iggy Pop
4) Complete Recordings approx. 1936-1938 (1990) - Robert Johnson
5) Freedom Acoustic Concerts NY 1989 (1990) VHS – Neil Young
6) Nebraska (1982) - Bruce Springsteen
7) Hurt Me (1983) – Johnny Thunders
8) MTV Unplugged in New York Nirvana (1994) DVD/CD – Nirvana
9) American IV: The Man Comes Around (2002) – Johnny Cash
10) Acoustic MotherF----ers (1994) - Rolling Stones
Now I have a lot of other great acoustic albums but these are my top 10 all time favorites in order. What do you think ? Feel free to share yours by posting them up. maybe I will find some new ones.
