The Grammys
2/14/12: Can someone tell awards shows that there is more than one rock band to celebrate than the Foo Fighters? Don't get me wrong, I love the band actually, but enough with them being the token rock band on every show! Even Grohl said it on the bands doc. And as for the Grammy awards itself they should just end the rock/metal category. It has been a joke that can NOT be taken seriously. Nothing has changed since they have it to Tull over Metallica 20 years ago. So embarrassing! Unlike the R&R Hall, which is knowingly disrespectful, the Grammy's clearly just don't know any better. They mean well but are lost. PLEASE get a real rock person in there to stop you guys from looking AWFUL in that area with the decisions made! I'm here if you need me. Brutal! Also was happy to see a mention of Gary Moore when they did the artists that passed but where on earth was JANI LANE and MIKE STARR?? If you like these artists or not is not the point! They were parts of major acts, show some respect! Again, I know the Grammys are all genres of music, but once again rock and hard rock gets the clueless treatment! I spend a lot of time killing the R&R Hall, and trust me, that is worse and more deserved, but these guys are not far behind. The biggest difference is I truly think the Grammys just don't know better. What makes the Hall worse is they fully know who their blatant bias is against! Again, can not stress enough, I love Foos, went to see them in LA a few months ago, this is not against them. Hell Dave wore a Slayer shirt, HOW COOL IS THAT? (and YES we ask him on TMS every season, he is a fan), but can we get a song from at least another rock band? Oh and thanks to the mouse techno guy for killing a great Foo Fighters song midway through.

There definitely should be more than one category for "rock". As it is now and has been it looks like you have apples and oranges competing against each other for the same Grammy award.

To my great surprise, I agree with him. It was unbelievably silly that they gave all the rock grammys to the Foos. They deserved maybe one at most. The best rock album category didn't even include any of the most important or even the biggest rock albums of the year iirc.

I agree with him too, although I don't think he's the "go to" guy to help the Grammy's in finding more suitable nominees. :uh:

I think a guy like Malcolm Dome would be a better person to represent the Grammy's for a metal category.

 Someone from the old Kerrang! krew and/or Classic Rock magazine seems like a much better choice to me as well.

I like Eddie Trunk well enough but I don't think he has the objectivity that's needed.

I really hate the word 'genre' :bonk:, but I agree there should definitely be a separate metal category.

And as for the Grammy awards itself they should just end the rock/metal category.

I agree, for probably a different reason.

The reason being 98% of new rock and new metal being totally lame nowadays.

Well, I'm thankful for the 2%. :)

but...it ain't enough. :mad
