After all these years... I ve finally found out what EMI stands for... Electric and Musical Industries !
Its too late though, the revered company is a gonna.... split up in a sale
Recorded Music Division.... sold to Universal for £1.2 billion
The Music Publishing Division.... £1.3 billion to Sony .
Thats it, end of story, another of Britains premier companies sold to foreign owners
( To add insult to injury it looks like Universal is actually French owned ie Vivendi ... home of Lady Gaga )
Sony now own the rights of 1.3 million songs ! thats a lot of music and recording.
Sadly a lot of jobs will go at EMI in West London as a whole era comes to an end.
Founded in 1932 the company of course became the home of the Beatles in the 60s.
There must be an incredible story behind this amazing company .... maybe the BBC will take up the challenge of making a TV documentary about its illustrious past ..... from the wax discs to todays hi tech digital.
