Ya.. In that link they talked about it being more used in Metal Bands. I prefer standard tuning as well even though I use a Bass that I keep in Drop D..

I feel that Kurt Cobian couldn't have wrote most of his songs if it wasnt for drop D.

Kurt didn't play in dropped d that often it was mostly standard and flat but as a guitarist i completely agree about dropped d.Its fun to play but mostly a cheap method.
