Lyrics written by someone who knew Jim and had plenty of issues of his own, but survived.

"And I have seen that movie
    And it wasn't like that
    He was mad and lonely
    And blind as a bat

    To the bridge
    And the falling tree
Too deaf to hear his own song
    You see"

I don't know if these lyrics are "deep", but they definitely ring true for any of us who have any bit of regret and/or longing for a former loved one, especially if they became "former" due to personal actions.

For me, it's the second verse, both in lyrics as well as in his delivery of them:

Now your pictures that you left behind
Are just memories of a different life
    Some that made us laugh
    Some that made us cry
One that made you have to say goodbye

What I'd give to run my fingers through your hair
Touch your lips, to hold you near,
    When you say your prayers
    try to understand
    I've made mistakes, I'm just a man

When he holds you close, when he pulls you near
When he says the words, You've been needing to hear,
I wish I was him and those words were mine,
to say to you, 'til the end of time

(start at the 2:05 mark if you don't feel like going through the whole song)
