Just come across this Deep Purple from '87 Detroit, Ritchie pulling out the stops. I caught them on this tour at the Birmingham N.E.C. I remember Ritchie put on a killer show down on one knee just going for it. When he was in the mood he took some beating I reckon.
:grinthumb

Richie was crazed at some shows :D I saw him in Rainbow when I was really young and he was just going nuts!!! Smashed his guitar and everything. But before that he was just ripping and running all show long. Way crazier then anything I've seen him doing on any of my DVDs.

Nice clip :grinthumb

Sometimes it's better to see the REAL DEAL live. There are hundreds of performances and a few DVD's or Video releases. Although I have to say...his guitar destruction from California Jam '74 was pretty awesome!!

DKW I bet that was immense watching him rip it up, I always think he's one of those guys that looks like he was born with a guitar across his shoulder just real natural.

MP I really must get hold of a dvd of California Jam.

Yeah, it was crazy, Sox. He was really pull out all the stops that night.
Maybe I was a little bit more impressed to my young age but my Uncle and brother were just as awe struck as I was.

I have that DVD, one of the best Deep Purple DVDs available, IMO.

^^^ I wanted to take Tray to see Blackmore's Night last year at a local venue but the tickets went like hot cakes and by the time I got on to it .. SOLD OUT. They tell me the front rows are taken up by folk in medievil gear, sounds like a blast. :D

I haven't ever heard any of his Blackmore's Night material but I would definitely go see them live if the opportunity arouse.

...and my favourite version of Wring That Neck. That bit with Ian playing cowbell and Ritchie smiling... epic!
