Ideally, who do you think should have gotten the Purple gig?

As you may or may not know, after Ian Gillan was kicked out of Purple in '89, the Purple camp were scratching their head over who they'd get to replace the Child in Time. Well, several top-notch vocalists were auditioned, before one Joe Lynn Turner managed to land the spot (After Surivor's Jimi Jamison was forced to turn down the position due to conflict with Scott Bros. Records), coming out with the much maligned (Unfairly, IMO) Slaves & Masters album. Who would you have picked to front the infamous Mark V line-up?

Kal Swan

Joe Lynn Turner

Jimmy Barnes

John Farnham

For me - Brian Howe. He's a great singer who could combine the intonations of Paul Rodgers and AOR-style singing (which Blackmore likes).
Although, of course, "Child In Time" in his execution is difficult to imagine. But his character is not simple. Even Mick Ralphs was unhappy with his behavior, and with Ritchie, Brian, probably, would have been constant in conflicts.2_sm5.gif
