Pink Floyd leader’s solo work Rattle That Lock due in time for September tour

Pink Floyd leader David Gilmour has revealed the title of his next solo album – it’s called Rattle That Lock.

It includes tracks provisionally called Girl With A Yellow Dress and Just Do It, and features contributions from Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera and Jools Holland.

Gilmour and wife Polly Samson, who wrote the album’s lyrics, discussed the work at the Borris House Festival Of Writing And Ideas in Ireland over the weekend.

BrainDamage reports that Samson said the theme was “Carpe diem – seize every moment, look to the future, ‘Just Do It’ and don’t hold back.”

Can't believe it's almost 10 years since "On an Island", which was excellent. Really looking forward to "Rattle That Lock".

Some updates:

Pink Floyd guitarist’s Rattle That Lock to be released in September - with lead single coming this week!

David Gilmour has confirmed his fourth solo album Rattle That Lock will be released on September 18 – and the title track will arrive as a single this week.

It’s to be premiered on BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans Show tomorrow morning (Friday), and made available to download and stream immediately afterwards.

Sony Music say: “The song begins with the four notes that precede announcements at French SNCF railway stations, which Gilmour recorded on his iPhone at Aix-en-Prevence station.

“Polly Samson’s lyrics are inspired by Book II of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, which is also featured in her recent acclaimed novel, The Kindness. The single also features the Liberty Choir and singers Mica Paris and Louise Marshall.”

Rattle That Lock – which follows 2006’s On An Island and Floyd's final album The Endless River last year – was co-produced by Gilmour and Phil Manzanera, while the cover was art-directed by Aubrey Powell of Hipgnosis.

It’s available for pre-order in standard CD, gatefold vinyl, deluxe CD/DVD and deluxe CD/Blu-ray plus standard and deluxe digital formats.

As promised yesterday, here's a new track:

I could listen to David play all day, but this track isn't an instant classic. Then again, his previous album did need some time to really grow. I'm positive that this one will be the same.
