Dave Grohl Laughs Off Broken Leg Conspiracy Theory: ‘I Have a Note From My Doctor!’

Dave Grohl‘s triumphant return to the stage after breaking his leg during a Foo Fighters concert — and then continuing the tour from a custom-built throne — is one of the feel-good rock ‘n’ roll stories of the year. Some people, in fact, think it might be too good to be true.

Grohl has apparently heard there’s a conspiracy theory making the rounds that suggests he faked his broken leg in order to goose ticket sales for the Foos tour, and he laughed it all off during the band’s Sept. 14 stop in Portland, Ore., using a few minutes of downtime between songs to deliver a monologue that started with him assuring the crowd he has a note from his doctor to verify the break.

“I’m really into the idea of a conspiracy theory,” he continued. “I think it’s f—in’ rad. What if — what if I didn’t break my f—in’ leg? What if I jumped off stage and I fell on the ground, and I made it all look like it was a f—in’ emergency? And then they dragged me off to the side, and the band keeps playing, and then 10 minutes later, I magically f—ing reappear on stage? And then I get somebody else’s X-Ray of a broken leg, and I make it into a t-shirt, and we make millions of f—ing dollars. And I design this f—ing awesome throne, so I don’t have to f—ing stand up any more! Imagine that!”

Recognizing he’s now part of a grand tradition of rock conspiracy theories that includes the persistent rumors of Paul McCartney‘s death, he laughed, “Who is Paul McCartney? Who knows? … Let me tell you, if it weren’t for that other guy who broke his leg – I’m sorry, if it wasn’t for me breaking my leg — we might not be here tonight!”

The Foo Fighters are scheduled to conclude their North American tour in mid-October, after which they’re due to depart for a run of European dates in early November. Check out Grohl’s speech above, and visit their official site for a complete list of upcoming shows.

Rock 'n roll isn't immune from these conspiracy-theory wack-jobs, there's thousands of them out there, and every last one of them needs to be strapped into a straight-jacket, locked in a padded-cell for their own safety, and spoon-fed their meals containing large amounts of anti-hallucinatory medication mixed in with it ..... there's plenty of people who seriously think that Curt Cobain was murdered by a hit-man, hired by his wife, and who say that John Lennon was assassinated by the CIA.

Every Foo Fighters show I believe, on every tour, is a sell-out, not that I've ever been to one, and we're talking football stadiums in many cases, not just arenas and theatres, so yeah I'd definitely want to break my leg on purpose, maybe meaning that the whole tour then gets cancelled, just to make the thousands of people who couldn't even get tickets feel less disappointed.

Grohl though also now I think with 7 f-bombs officially holds the world record for the most times anyone ever used the word "f*ck" in one phrase, without hardly even pausing to take a breath, so I'm thinking probably not the brightest guy in the business, though I guess his leg probably hurts like a motherf*cker, so I'd probably do the same....
